Poor credit rating... can I move?

Hi all,
I am currently renting a property which I can just about barely afford. It leaves me with nothing each month after paying for all of my bills. I would like to leave the property and rent elsewhere.
I have a poor credit rating and I worried that this will be a hindrance when I want to move forward with property applications. I have two dogs, so that is already limiting my options, I don't want this to be even more of an issue.
Has anyone had any experience with moving when they had a poor credit rating? Should I just wait a few more months and just hope that it improves and then start looking?
Any information would be great, thank you!

What do your public credit files show? Any CCJ or insolvency?0

I have some outstanding debts that defaulted whilst I was a student. This is what led to me getting debt and shattered my previously perfect credit score (due to a relationship that broke down whilst I was studying). I have 4 defaults, rest are all payments which have been met every month. No insolvancy or CCJ marks against my name.0

Forget the score. It's been generated by a company that neither lends money nor lets property.

When you are referenced for a rental property and the referencing includes a credit check all the landlord/letting agent has access to are your public credit files. All your public credit files show are CCJ and insolvency.0 -
Ah that's great news! I was worried that I would get knocked back if a suitable property came through.
Thank you so much!0
