Volunteers given powers to issue Speeding Fines
Options
I came across this article today regarding the Lincolnshire Police Chief Constable's plans to give powers to PCSOs members of the public to allow them to issues tickets to motorists allegedly speeding through their towns/villages.

I'm not so sure about this one.

I would imagine the solicitors would be more than willing to fight any convictions in court.
The training would need to be of a high standard and no doubt wannabe police officers will be all over this.
Why not install a speed camera if there is a real problem, or is it costs over lives?0 -

How much training is required to see that someone isn’t wearing a seatbelt or is on the phone? Quick eye test is all they need.
Training to use a speed gun isn’t that complicated either.
There are however a few flaws to his plan, he may give them authority to carry out his plans but he cannot change legislation.0 -
Mr Skelly said: “Under the new powers, a PCSO and a team of three volunteers would be able to set up a speed check point and then enforce it.
“I’d have to ensure that a PCSO is involved because there’s a danger of vigilantism and so if speed checks are led by one of my staff, they would be able to take an objective stance.
Ah yes because everyone in a uniform is perfect and the job only appeals to fair, gentle souls and never attracts unsavoury types. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
I'd do this. But I'd do it at 3am when people think it's ok to drive through our village at 60mph+.0

Breaking news. Lincolnshire police forced to attend 1000s of arguments between irate motorists and villagers.
Most people wisely bite their tongue when dealing with the police. They're unlikely to be so restrained with volunteers.0
