Increased Electricity Bill - Smart Meter Install

Options
Hi;

We had a SMART meter fitted a while ago and have noticed a sharp rise in our electricity bill (approx doubled!). Details TBC.

I'm sure we were paying around £90 a qtr which has risen to £170 in the last qtr.

I have read a few posts with people observing the same issue but most seem to have rolled over that this is due to many previous bills being estimated.

I am going to go back through my electricity bills to quantify the increase but in the mean time.

(a) What should the average qtrly cost / usage be for a small End terraced double glazed property.

(b) Could this be a fault of the SMART meter and if so how do I check actual Kw usage against the SMART meter reading?

Apart from the items below. we had a new Fridge Freezer mid last year and it has to be on min otherwise it freezes (could be working too hard?).

In the house there are just the two of us increasing to 4.5 once a month for a weekend. We have a Combi Boiler, Gas CH, Fridge Freezer, Mira Sport Shower used twice daily, 40 Inch Plasma TV and 32 LED (only one on at a time) mix of energy saving and standard bulbs, Induction Cooker (mostly only use the Halogen Rings), Washing Machine on couple of times a week, most items never left on standby. Laptop on charge twice a week, mobile phones and iPad one item on charge daily. 3D Printer since Christmas used once or twice a week.

Thanks

    I many of the similar threads on this forum the issue relates to meter readings, particularly estimated ones.

    Your first move must be to go through your bills and find your actual annual consumption. Forget about £'s you are only interested in kwh.

    When comparing with your last bill -don't forget we are are still in winter when bills are high.
    Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

    Having a meter installed makes no difference to your consumption.
    make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
    and we will never, ever return.
