Are you suggesting suing the hotel (which was in Dublin, as was the transaction) using English courts?

The balance on the card was £650 at the time, with the limit at £1,200. So I said sure, since it was a card I didn't really use.

That doesn't make much sense. Have you being paying down the £650 that you are not disputing?

Sounds to me like the paying with vouchers is what has caused the confusion. Has the hotel actually admitted that the bill was settled?
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

The card has a £1200 limit and at the time of use had £650 left on it to pay off (meaning I had about £550 to spend on it). That was BEFORE the hotel took the holding fee. I had to use the card last year for a car repair and had been paying it off £50 a month (which is still my usual amount).

When the hotel took the holding fee it actually took the balance above the £1200 limit and I had to quickly pay £93 onto the card to get it below the limit again. Since then I have been continuing with my £50 monthly direct debit for the card. The balance on the card as of today is £857, when in reality it should be only about £200.

The hotel admitted to an administrative error, which they explained was somebody forgetting to "put through" the refund on departure. My wife has actually written a letter to them about 6 weeks ago which they haven't responded to either.

As people have told you, contact the card issuer and get a chargeback on the transaction. Your procrastination isn't doing you any good.

I really think its time to call the card company and dispute the transaction.

    Too late to charge back.

But a dispute would make sense.

I have 4 credit cards and 3 bank accounts, this one was done using a credit which I don't use (I only keep it for emergencies), so it was never at the front of my mind.
If it was my only card then I would have been more proactive in getting the money back, but since it is not really that urgent I haven't been too concerned.
Plus my wife is the person who was there and dealt with it, knows all the info etc, so it made more sense for her to pursue it.

When she came back from the trip did she not hand the card back so you knew which card was taken ?

Silly me thinking it's more than 120 days since September.
