How do you insure your own personal possessions then? If the house you lodge in burns down, presumably you'd lose out, unless their policy already covers your possessions, as a lodger.

Can you not take out contents style cover as a lodger? My son had personal contents insurance when he was a student in halls, then furnished student accommodation, so there must be something similar for individuals who share.
