Royal Mail Shares

Good morning.
As an employee of Royal Mail I was given a thousand shares when the company was floated.

I':money:m considering selling them, but I am told that I would need to pay tax etc on them if sold now. However, if I wait until October of this year, I would only need to pay capital gains tax.

My question is I suppose is
a. If I sell now, what deductions would I incur
b. If I waited until October what deductions would I incur.

Thank you for your help.

This is all explained to you if you log in to manage your employee shares account.
it will calculate your tax payable.
  • Capital gains tax is likely to be irrelevant, unless you are selling other shares in the year you will be well below the threshold so will have nothing to pay (shares currently worth around £5700, threshold is £11300).
  • I work for Royal Mail as well you can sell the first 2 lots of shares but the 3 lot come to maturity in April of this year I believe it is.
You are correct about the 5 year wait for selling them without paying tax but again it is the 1st lot which were issued in 2013 that you can sell tax free you have to wait to sell the others which were given to us in 2014 and 2015
  • Has anyone recently bought RMG shares as a private investor?
