Green star energy unlimited tariff
For the last year I have been on unlimited tariff paying £149 a month for unlimited use of Gas/Elect. for a 5 bedrooms house. The supplier worked out the figure based on projected use from my previous supplier. At that time we had a 30 years old very inefficient boiler and halogen lights every where. Since we started on the unlimited tariff we updated the whole central heating system with a very efficient new boiler and we installed LED lights all over the house.
Now come renewal, Green energy star are quoting me £160/month based on my last year use but I feel that the figure should be lower than the original £149 considering the changes. I like the peace of mind of unlimited use but do people think I should move to another supplier? Will I be making significant savings by moving?
Green star is projecting my annual usage at 16000KW for gas and 7000Kw for elect. but obviously that was before the changes to the house.

I understand you may like the idea of an unlimited usage tariff, but you appear to be paying well over the oddds for it at a time when you seem to be reducing consumption.
Whilst prices will vary by region, a quick check (based on a random supply region) indicated you could purchase 16000KW of gas and 7000Kw of elect for less than £1400pa (possibly even less if you considered seperate suppliers) from various suppliers/tariffs, yet you paid almost £1800 last year
(and are being quoted even more this year)
Obviously, with those cheaper tariffs that charge you based on what you use, the lower the consumption, the lower the eventual cost0 -
Thank you guys. I tried mse energy club but the tariff Iam on is not showing on the list for the supplier so it is difficult to make a comparison. I see the point of buying the same amount cheaper but I like the idea of unlimited. There is always someone in the house day and night so having the heating on Will not bother me.0

There is no such thing as a ‘free lunch’. You can rest assured that the supplier will have set the tariff rate such that they will not lose out. Clearly, what you pay is entirely up to you but, personally, I would do a full market comparison and then add 10;20; 30% to determine the break even point. This is a system account and does not represent a real person.
