Hi. I was in the process of switching suppliers from British Gas to Eon through the MSE energy saving club. I have just received an email from Eon cancelling my switch due to them not supporting my meter. As I have a British Gas Smart Meter does that mean that I am stuck with British Gas
Cheers

What tariff did you apply for? Non smart meter tariffs should not be a problem: you would just have to read your meter and give the supplier readings.0 -
The tariff I applied for was the
E.ON Go Online 1 Year v8 Online
Not sure if it's smart meter or not

Very odd. The tariff terms and conditions state:
If you don!!!8217;t have a smart meter or we're unable to read your smart meter, or your smart meter was installed by another supplier, we may need to send a meter reader to read it from time to time. Or you can give us readings yourself on eonenergy.com/meter-read or 0345 052 0000.
This is one for the E.oN rep to comment on.0 -
If you have a BG meter which is a prepayment meter Eon cannot use that meter in prepayment meter mode
Eon now use Liberty Secure prepayment meters. They would have to switch the Landis Gyrs or Siemens prepays to Liberty meters0 -
Hi. No its not a pre pay meter0

Good morning TheTangoMan and welcome to the forums.
I agree with the others, this is odd.
If you just have a normal smart meter, you shouldn't have any problems changing supplier, although the meter won't stay smart, you'd just have to do the meter reads yourself.
The Go online one year V8, is only available through our online channels and broker sites as you know. But you can go on it with, E7 and one rate meters (including smart) you do need to pay by monthly Direct Debit.
So from your post there doesn't appear to be any reason why you can't go on it.
I think it would be best to speak to the sales department here, although they can't do the switch for you, they can look at the meter details and get it sorted out.
Thank you

Contacted British Gas. It is because I am on their Freetime Sunday tariff. They have switched me to their standard tariff and it will take up to 7 days for the national database to recognise this.
