Nat West Account Failure

Options
Son and me tried to switch to Natwest to take advantage of opening offer. Told this is easy - Could not have been more misguided!

Son has no correspondance at all, I have three separate sets. Account for me now open at a branch miles away, when there is a local branch practically next door I asked for, and I am being thanked by text for changing home and work contacts - which I have not done.

I tried their CHAT facility - where apparently someone will "take ownership" of a problem. Again - not so. Fobbed off with "I'd love to help you but I can't see you on the system".

I don't think I will be going through with the switch!

Why don't we switch bank accounts?
Because it's fraught with problems, our time is more valuable than the incentive, it likely goes wrong and then you spend more time and money rectifying errors you never caused in the first place.
Better the devil you know!

  • By contrast, my switch was seamless. Able to login to internet banking immediately after opening NatWest account and old account switched in 8 days. Just adding another viewpoint.

I had not trouble changing banks with the switching service, but after previous experiences with Natwest I didn't involve them!

I switched myself and both parents. The process was surprisingly different for all three of us and involved a visit to the bank for two of us (for different reasons) but the £125 made it worth it for each of us.

I would have been slightly more perturbed about the process if it was my main account but my parents have no qualms about switching and they are their only accounts. Fortunately they happen to have had separate accounts for some time so I've been directing their switching for the past year or so.

Why do you care, it makes absolutely no difference to the operation of an account which branch it is opened at. There is nothing that you can't do at the branch next door regardless of where the account is actually domiciled.

Seemless switch here. Opened account quickly, switch happened within 8 days. Even requested a cheque book easily via online chat.

I was also given a branch about 25 miles away, when there are several in between, including less than a mile away. Makes no difference at all, since your account can be serviced at any branch. The "branch manager" won't know you or care who you are, so your relationship with them will mean nothing.

I had no issues at all switching.

Although I don't see me hanging around as I don't like RBS as a business but I'll take the £125.

I see it as a reward for them charging me overdraft fees as a student that was supposed to be free. They didn't back down so I moved to Bank of Scotland.

You are wrong because the application process asks you to select a branch, it even has a sort code selector to use.

So, you diligently do this, and then Nat West carelessly allocate you an entirely different branch.

I actually could not care less where the physical branch is located.
The point is that the failure of organisation shown here makes you worry what is next - in fact what came next was entirely unprompted changes to phone contact details "Thank you for changing your details" - when I had not.

So, I think I am totally justified in thinking this is a poor start.

And it still does not explain why me son has no contact at all.

Back in the 1990's when this happened they were pretty good in my view.
