House insurance questions

Good evening peps
I've had my house insurance renewal though and now wondering if I can save some pennies by changing etc. My renewal came though as £477 House and contents no high value items. It's a 3 bedroom house with a consevitree.
Last year my financel chap sorted it out for me as I didnt know what to look for in a house insurance policy. Is there any company to avoid? Is it best to get seprate insurance for house and contents insurance . I have had a look on compare sites I don't want to rush into it without asking you guys as it's a head ache for me. Would be greatful for any good points forward as it's due in a few weeks.
Thank you

So you checked the comparison sites and what do they quote?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0

Keep the house and contents with the same insurer, it will may a claim easier.
Check the excess and other add ons when you compare quotes.
Unless you are in a high risk area £477 sounds very high for a 3 bed.0 -

Your reply starts off by telling the OP to remain with their existing insurer (although the reason you give is bizarre, and not true). Then you tell them that the renewal quote seems rather high!
OP, your question is too vague for anyone to really give you much advice. Use comparison sites to get competitive quotes. Compare the policies with your existing policy to ensure like for like cover. Then phone your insurer and tell them that you can get the insurance from Company X for £x.xx and ask them if they will beat or match it. They may do. If they won't then take out the insurance with the other company. You are at no disadvantage if you need to make a claim by having moved companies.0 -
I think Tom99 perhaps meant to keep both the buildings and contents with the same company as each other, not necessarily the same company he is currently with - at least that was how I read it. It's often a better price to do so too.0

Thank you. You may be right about what Tom99 meant. You are also correct that it is normally cheaper to take buildings and contents insurance together.0
