Tracker Funds

I'm thinking of investing in a couple of tracker funds, but so far the only company I have found which sell any are Legal and General. What are people's opinions on these funds? Do other companies sell tracker funds?

Look at the UK all companies sector and look at around or just below sector average and you will find a whole load of FTSE all share tracker funds.
Go towards the worst performers and you will find the FTSE 100 trackers down there.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -

Hi, Fiddler,
You can sort the Trustnet info to look for specific types of funds - the list of trackers is here.
There are also exchange traded funds, which are bought and sold like shares - slightly cheaper, as a rule, than unit trusts, and much more versatile. Sunil has posted a useful list of ETF providers here.
The AIC lists two tracking ITs - ITs too are dealt as shares.

Another list, with a few extra trackers is here.
If a tracker fund is only available to buy through the provider and not through a funds supermarket, I'd steer clear.
ETFs may be cheaper depending on how much you want to put in - ETFs usually have fixed dealing costs as well as charges expressed as percentages, while UTs/OEICs' charges are all percentage-based (but may be slightly higher).0 -
H&L do sell the Legal and General Trackers, but in this particular case is it not better (cheaper) to buy them direct from L&G?Noobie (not so

H&L charge exactly the same for L&G trackers as if you went to L&G direct. However at H&L using H&L you could also probably find other companies trackers that are lower than L&G and you could fund switch when ever you wanted to about 2000 different finds.
Another important factor is that in my experience (and other peoples experiences) L&G customer service is a complete load of S H I T. If you used H&L instead of L&G for L&G trackers you would get significantly better customer service. FTSE All Share tracker is a slightly better idea than FTSE100 as more diverse.0
