I have had my Barclays account for almost 3 years.
13 months ago i was given a job working in Dubai for part of the year working for a very well known ad reputable company. They pay me $150,000.00 per year i get around £9,000.00 per month paid directly via BACS into my account. My repayment conduct is good and they even gave me a £5,700 overdraft.
All of a sudden my internet banking would not let me in so i called them. They told me that there was a 1 day immediate closure notice on my account and wouldn't tell me why.
i had £12,500 in there and they said that i had to prove the money was legally obtained before they let me withdraw it. i turned up at the branch with my id, contract of employment and pay slips and they eventually gave me a bankers draft.
Still no explanation, not even a letter!
QUESTION 1: will i get a CIFAS marker on my currently 'excellent' credit file, if so, how can i remove it?
QUESTION 2: can i get my account reopened?
Any help would be most appreciated!

The first thing you need to do is to open a complaint, don't go running off to the ombudsman or anything before you get some kind of explanation from the bank. This may prove difficult as banks are very tight lipped if they suspect any kind of fraud or money laundering, which I suspect might be the case. It will also take time and patience and, possibly, a few trips to a branch with paperwork.
Keep an eye on your credit reports for CIFAS markers, they won't appear straight away. If anything does appear then challenge it.
Unfortunately, there are a few threads on here that appear to be similar to yours. Some people, with determination, get a resolution. Others just move on.
Good luck and please keep us up to date.I came into this world with nothing and I've got most of it left.0 -

I'm assuming that you have a permanent address in the UK - open a new account as soon as you can.

OP....Moan, whinge and ask the Go-To bank for compensation. Ask them to give you a final response letter and then escalate to the FOS.0

Being a UK resident is a requirement for opening the account and it!!!8217;s not unreasonable for them to have the same requirements if you decide to go abroad.
You don!!!8217;t really have a basis for a complaint, particularly as Barclays have branches in most countries and offer international bank accounts.0 -
Open an account with METRO BANK.
Barclays lost out they wont see your money now.
There own fault... even tho you provided proof they still want to close lol idiots.• HSBC (Main A/C)
• Halifax Back up A/C
• Lloyds (Spending) A/C
• RBS Back up A/C
• Barclays Old A/C
• Nationwide Old A/C0 -
Your OP actually raises many questions.
Firstly, if you work in Dubai, how were you able to go into the branch with your contract of employment, ID and payslips?
Secondly, if you are in the UK then why are you being paid from Dubai and. by the figures you have given. without any deduction of tax or NI. Are you declaring this income to HMRC?
Salaries of this level are not paid to low skilled workers. Do your professional qualifications, employment history and more importantly SALARY HISTORY, as known to the bank, match what you are now earning?
Thirdly, how come there was only about £12K in the account. If you are being paid 9K per-month, what is happening to this money? Is it going to pay your own credit card bills, finance agreements, mortgage etc or is it just being transferred out of the account again to ??? Is your debit card or your Barclaycard actually being used in Dubai?0 -
Another "tall story" OP. I thought school holidays were last week.0

Another question for OP: what does "My repayment conduct is good" mean in this context, i.e. who/what are you repaying that you feel may be relevant to your bank?0

This is one quote I’m sick of reading. Someone makes a post you don’t believe in and the ‘school holiday’ comment comes out.
Having worked in a school before I’d like to think half of today’s kids could come out with a story with this much intelligence. GCSE pass rates would be soaring!0
