Finally persuaded my mum to replace her old top set as they didn't fit. Her new top set arrived in September, broke in half January and I am just about to pick them up after another repair. She's savings enough to have had to pay for them herself and at the amount they cost, I would expect them to las a bit better! I do all her food shopping and she's not crunching down on nuts or chewing through steak..
should I deamand a new pair?

YES. And to be fair, any dentist worth his/her salt would do a whole new set (upper and lower) not just the upper set. If your Mum is on a low income, she could also claim for full health costs, too, btw.
