Small Battery Motion Detector Doorbell

I have one of those from Amazon, your no. 2. Mine doesn’t have the remote control option though.
They (and I guess other similar I.R. units) do suffer from false triggering when the sun shines on them, they can also false trigger with air movement, although not as regularly as when the sun is low. Mine mounts under a porch, so only false triggers near sunset.
The main unit batteries don’t last long, so consider a mains power unit.0 -

Thanks for your response/experience and input.
Re sunset, I don't get that .... I lose all sun by about 6pm as it dips behind the taller building over the road, so most of the time I miss that "red/pink light" - I remember years ago a friend had a valuable video recording as it was on the tape still sitting in their VCR and the sunset shone through their blinds and set the unit to record while they were still at work .....
So much to think about ... you'd expect to just be able to wander into a random/local shop, grab one from there, take it home and 5 minutes later Bob's your uncle and it's working
Why doesn't life work like that
I'm now veering towards "if there are probably going to be issues, then it might be best to buy the cheapest one".
As I've said, I am not a decision-maker .... I HATE shopping .... for anything/everything (except some particular sweeties I have a yearning for).0 -
It is (was).
But I presume the poster meant PIR which is Passive Infra-Red ... a type of movement detector.
Sorry both wrongI should have typed more info, I ment Raspberry PI like the projects below.

I would tend to go with No2 too of the alarms, but would read the comments and the FAQ before making my mind up.
The problem what I found with these devices, if you are not quick enough you may knot know what triggered it. For myself cameras were a better way of doing stuff. They also monitored while i was way too.
The other problem, deepening on your neighborhood, without eyes on the prize, if you go out to investigate, the event could be harmful to you well-being, and people may become abusive to you. They also know where you live, and what you look like.0 -
PasturesNew... regarding the sunset issue, my sensor is mounted in a shaded location, under a porch roof. So the sun hitting the sensor only becomes an issue when the sun is low in the west, ie sunset.
These movement sensors are really cheap, so it!!!8217;s not a lot to get one to play with. Don!!!8217;t forget the indoor part is quite power hungry and benefits from a mains power supply or at least rechargeable batteries.0 -
Another option - a wildlife camera trap - bit more expensive
But then you have a picture as proof too and don't have to keep jumping up and down to see whats happened - just review it later
