    So you can receive the money by electronic transfer and there's no longer the need to cash a cheque?

    Not strictly true. Some companies such as for example British Gas allow their crossed cheques to be cashed in a branch of a specific bank. If they make that provision it should be noted in an accompanying letter.

    Really? When did they start that? They never allowed it when I worked for them. Do you have any evidence of this?
