Credit Card Issues! Absolute Farce

Hello Guys,

Just to begin with I've had several lines of credit in the past (bills, phone contracts, credit cards) and I have never missed a payment. I initially had a Halifax 0% Card of which I paid off before the interest begin and closed the account (I realise now that this probably a mistake)

Roll on a further 4 months and again no missed payments I intended to get another credit card and applied through Santander, Virgin & The AA. I've moved properties 3 times in 3 years and one property I moved into is brand new and shows as two different postcodes depending on what system so IE Phone Bills are X postcode and Water Y. I had my credit report from Experian which showed me as Excellent with no missed payments. I was declined by all 3 after I spread out the applications. I feared it was because of the fact that they couldn't find my address. I attempted to appeal but was met with extremely hostile customer services at Virgin and lost the will to go forward.

Fast forward to now I've since tried to appeal with Virgin who won't give me the Underwriting reason for the decline but have confirmed that they couldn't find the address and this played a factor in the decision.

I've since been reduced from Excellent to Fair and I want to know if it is because of the postcode how I would get each credit company to correct the mistake?

I've written to Virgin who told me the above in a round about way.

  • If your files show incorrect postcodes that don't match with the ER, ask them to correct them.

Don't worry about the Excellent/Fair nonsense.
  • Ignore the score and rating as it means nothing.

You will only have some searches on your file

    Hello ZX,

In each property I've moved to I've updated the electoral roll as well as my council tax but my credit report only ever shows my mums address.

I'm having issues with Experian also. Is there a solution to get it sorted? I've already registered once again with the council.

    Cheers.
  • Do you have other credit accounts that show your correct/most up to date address?

It sounds like it may be the mis match between registered account addresses and the ER.

    Hello,

Unfortunately not but I'm happy to provide proof of address on all 3 properties (I have several bills etcetc). I've since applied with my Bank who have again rejected my credit application I would imagine for the same reason, this time I'll push on with my appeal straight away.

I've read the credit score ratings don't mean too much which has put me at ease. I'd worked for a number of years to never miss a payment and now I can't get credit what so ever. It's an absolute joke.
  • Try one of the sub prime card providers. You need to start building some history.

Address instability can be a problem for mainstream providers, but the sub prime guys are more forgiving of it (and expect it).

    I suppose.

I'm just frustrated that I've had several lines of credit.

    Phone Contracts
    Overdraft (Up to £1K)
Credit Card (£1.2K) cleared and closed
    DJ Decks

Loads more over the past 3 years but it is what it is I suppose.
