Ka-ke-bo is a combination of three Japanese characters, which mean ‘book of accounts for household economy’, and that’s essentially what this book is.
The first few pages explain the tradition of Kakebo and how to use it. The rest of the book is a budgeting journal with graphs and questionnaires to help calculate your monthly and weekly expenditure, with space to review your spending and savings at the end of each month.
Once a year is up, the book encourages you to reflect on what you’ve learnt and what you’ll change to reach your savings goals. The idea is that Kakebo will not only improve your finances, but also lead to a more balanced and calm mind.
