Didn't realise the rule and went down to one car a while ago, have the option of just leaving it as is and paying cheap insurance (£197.00) ( we still only have one car ) OR Paying an extra £100 this year to reinstating my husbands so if we go back to 2 cars, which we may in the next few years allow us to be both back on cheap insurance.
We are early 40's - NCB worth paying the extra for ?
Thanks

When I got a car, my wife's insurance company gave me a decent discount equivalent to full NCB0

I accumulated 2 lots of full no claims (9yrs+) as for years I owned cars which were paid for by my company's car allowance scheme and had a second "weekend" car.
I went down to 1 car a few years ago and now use the bonuses year about to keep them both active due to the 2 year rule.
I think it depends on what type of car, the value and risk you are (city or rural, employment/role etc). And if you're going back up to 2 cars within 2 years or not. If it's likely to be over 2 years I'd say stick to the £197You can have results or excuses, but not both.Challenge - be 14 Stone BY XMAS!

One insurer I know of (not a recommendation) that takes NCD up to 3 years old - co-op.
If cost effective use them now with the old NCD then alternate policyholder each year0 -
thanks, will check out co-op. Seems such an unfair system -i had no idea about it until recently0

For anyone else stuck on this one Co-op and elephant accept up to three years
Also worth going to your previous insurer where your last policy held and checking with them. 0
