Currys/ Samsung issue

Hi
I purchased a Samsung K450 sound bar just before Christmas from Currys.
When I got this home noticed on the box you could purchase wireless rear speakers for this.
Went on Facebook messenger Samsung site to get advice of what speakers I needed.
Was advised to purchase SWA 9000s. To cut a long story short. These were the incorrect type. It should have been SWA 8000s. After several calls to Samsung and a refund of the speakers. it now appears they have discontinued the 8000 speakers and I am unable to purchase these anywhere.
My complaint is. Currys still selling this soundbar and Samsung still advertising on the booklet that you can purchase these as an addition item.
Is this not bad advertising . Plus does this fall in the category of not fit for purpose. Samsung will not help. I am now left with a soundbar that I cannot use to its full potential.

Why shouldn't Currys still sell the soundbar?
You were happy with the fact is was just the bar and sub when you bought it. You say it was only when you got it home you noticed you could add speakers so it wasn't a factor in your decision to buy it.
What are you hoping to achieve? Looking for compensation for a situation of your own making?0 -
The sound bar is sold on it's own and is capable of being used on it's own. And optional extra use to be available but no longer is, it's lack of availability is irrelevant. Basically tough luck.0

I’d be annoyed if I bought one now and found out the speakers were not available. You could contact Curry’s and suggest they changed their advertising, but I’d guess they’d argue with you that at the time you bought yours the correct speakers were still available to purchase.0

Being annoyed has nothing to do with it. Had OP discussed the additional speakers with Currys prior to purchase, and could therefore show that they formed part of their consideration when purchasing, then maybe they could try for an "as described" issue. But even then, the soundbar is still as described; does what it says, and is compatible with the stated accessory...Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.- Mark TwainArguing with idiots is like playing chess with a pigeon: no matter how good you are at chess, its just going to knock over the pieces and strut around like its victorious.0 -

Adding satellite speakers to such a set up would only ever be a very poor substitute.
You've had a lucky escape.
Save up for a full surround sound system. This £200 sound bar will never provide surround sound.0 -

Not quite true - see below.Being annoyed has nothing to do with it. Had OP discussed the additional speakers with Currys prior to purchase, and could therefore show that they formed part of their consideration when purchasing, then maybe they could try for an "as described" issue. But even then, the soundbar is still as described; does what it says, and is compatible with the stated accessory...
Rather than "as described", the OP would be able to use The Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations. These have categories of "misleading actions" and "misleading omissions". They are specifically written to ensure that consumers have full and accurate information, and take into account information from the manufacturer as well as the retailer.
A misleading omission is defined in law to be: A commercial practice is a misleading omission if ... the commercial practice omits material information ... "material information" means ... the information which the average consumer needs, according to the context, to take an informed transactional decision.
Stating that a product is compatible with an accessory, whilst not telling the consumer that the accessory is no longer produced, does not allow the consumer to take an informed decision. Therefore anyone who bought the soundbar based on this would be entitled to a full refund.
(This does not apply directly to the OP, of course, as they only discovered the accessory was available AFTER making the purchase. In addition, it's not clear whether the compatibility is written on the box, or in the booklet inside the box - OP mentions both. If it is only on the booklet, no-one can use this to make a purchasing decision. But my main point is that the onus to supply accurate and complete information lies with the retailer).0 -
