Holiday Inn Hell - Help!

Please can anyone help or give us advice. My partner and I stayed at a Holiday Inn in Cambridge last week. When we arrived the receptionist asked us for a swipe of our card, we've done this most times but always ask if anything is to be charged. She said nothing would be charged. The best answer is to say 'No thanks' and tell them that you don't want the facility to sign for anything.

I have never had a hotel question this, beyond the occasional mild grumble, but if they persist ask them to point to the T&Cs of the room booking that requires them to do this.
