Wheelie bin problems with neighbour's

Hi,
Just a quick question as think I maybe in the wrong but email sent local council just in case but while I wait wanted to ask here.
Few months we moved in to a terrace house and on bin collection days all the houses leave there bin at the end terrace where bin people can get to but I'm the opposite end so can't see bins when they are left but imagine. Few occasions now someone is dumping there general waste in one of our recycling bins therefore bin men won't empty leaving us to dig in the bin and sort it out so after a long drive tonight I get home to find 2 bins not emptied as again general waste dumped in 2 of my recycling bins so another 2/3 weeks wait plus removing and disposing of someone else's waste so I had a moment and just pulled the waste that was not ours and left it where everyones bins are left for collection which is at the end terrace then a few mins later the person from end terrace came over and said why we did it so I explained but said it's not our waste and left it at that and also made no offer to remove it.
Am I wrong doing this or do I have to take ownership of another neighbours waste?
Thanks ks

I have this problem occasionally too.
I only put my waste bin out every other month or so as that’s how long it takes to get full. And then Friday morning on the way home from work (especially if I’ve done a night shift and had to put my bin out at ~8pm) it’s full of other rubbish that’s been dumped so the lid is open and it’s not been collected.
I ring the council, explain the problems and that it will be there until it’s collected. They generally apologise and come and do it before the end of the day. The other option is (after checking with be council) leave the bin outside your house, the actual boundary of your property with the public highway.0 -
I had a moment and just pulled the waste that was not ours and left it where everyones bins are left for collection

You could well find yourself getting charged for fly tipping.
What you should be doing, is trying to identify who is dumping their waste in your bin, and then raising the issue with the council.Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.0 -
Do you mean that at some point between putting bin out to be uplifted and actual collection someone has dumped general waste?
If so can you also take out the general waste bin and maybe they will use that instead?0 -
I agree with this. I had a similar sort of problem in the past and found that people who do this are generally too slovenly to check whether what they're dumping has personal info in it. It's quite easy, if unpleasant, to ID them. You could well find yourself getting charged for fly tipping.

On the one occasion when I involved them, the council were very supportive. They visited the miscreant and the problem stopped. Other instances I've dealt with myself, when material left has been of an embarrassing nature! :rotfl:0 -
I have absolutely no experience of them at all but could you use something like a gravity bin lock. They stop people opening your bin but when they are upside down when the bin is being emptied they open automatically.
If you google "gravity bin locks" you should get a few good hits0 -
This is a recycling bin though, not a wheelie. I know they vary, but by their nature, recycling bins usually need sorting by hand to some extent.cpbackhouse wrote: »I have absolutely no experience of them at all but could you use something like a gravity bin lock. Our recycling bins are wheelie. Single stream recycling.Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0

Legally, once you've got the rubbish that's not yours, it is yours in law, so you can't just make it up and stick it down the other end.
I know this as I saw it on one of those telly programmes where a man had randomly picked up an empty can in the street and put it on top of a post (so it wouldn't be kicked about I guess) - and the street enforcer/camera showed him being told that once you've touched other people's rubbish, it's yours and the offence goes against you if caught.
If it were me I'd stop putting my bins out - take it with me in the car every 2-3 days and put it into public bins/wherever's legal, just so I didn't have to put my bins out.0 -
