Tenancy Deposit Not Protected

Hi,
I was wondering whether anyone can offer me some advice regarding the protection of my deposit.
I was part of an assured shorthold tenancy, beginning in April 2016 and concluding in November 2017. When moving into the property, I was replacing a tenant moving out, and was told by the letting agent that I would also replace him on the deposit protection scheme. Upon the tenancy expiring in November, my housemate informed me that my name did not appear on the deposit protection, rather that of the tenant I replaced. Consequently, I believe that my deposit was not protected for the duration of my tenancy. Under Section 213 of the Housing Act 2004, landlords or letting agents are required to protect deposits within 30 days of moving into a property and there are potential financial penalties if this does not happen. The problem is that I have now received my deposit back in full. Am I still eligible for compensation in this scenario, even if my deposit has been returned?

I don't know the answer to this but imo it would be quite low of you and the system if it was the case. Assuming the rental wasn't bad why would you morally have a right to compensation what would be the loss the landlord or agent should be compensating you for in your opinion?0
