Hello
I am taking mortgage for my first property. My broker found also life and critical illness insurance for me. First, he offered to me is with Legal and General. My question is how family history can impact my premium? I am 25 years old, health and in good condition. Only problem I have is: My mother died due to brain aneurysm!leading to cerebral hemorrhage in age of 54. Also she was lifetime smoker. Do you think this information can affect my premium - if yes how much it could be? Maybe you know some insurers which would not increase premium much due to this family history.
Thank you in advance.

important not to be limited to just one broker, are they whole of the market ? Use different brokers for life assurance and shop around.
On medical questionnaire forms/ interview you will be advised to be honest with answers when questioned, anything less will invalidate any future claims.
In terms of premiums, that is more difficult and will depend from each provider
MSE does a good guide for Life assurance
also consider income protection if you can budget for it"It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"

Life offices have pre-application underwriters brokers can phone to get an idea of how certain things will be approached at application stage.
Have you told your broker about this and asked him to investigate?I am a mortgage broker. Do you think should I let L&G know and they will update that questionnaire or just choose another insurer?0

If you completed an application and didn't let L&G know then you should absolutely inform them as it could otherwise invalidate the policy.
Personally, I would currently very rarely recommend L&G for critical illness cover as every other provider on the market covers more conditions than them. They tend to be the cheapest provider for a reason.
That said, I don't think 1 family member having a stroke at age 54 would affect the premium. If your mother had been younger or if there was more than 1 immediate family member then it would almost certainly affect the cost but typically 1 family member wouldn't be a concern. But again, you MUST inform them.0
