Quote to replace roof batten near eaves

Helo. I have some water coming into the ceiling near the eaves. _ not much just some mould on ceiling but want to sort it out. Got a quote of £100 for roofer to replace four meter batton and one meter of felt underneath. I dnt know if this will work and seems a bit pricey but concerned that most other roofers dnt want to do such a small job. Does anybody know if this would work and is it a fair price? Any advice greatly appreciated!

Cant say if it will work as we have no idea why its being replaced or what is wrong. Not sure if its on a bungalow or 2 storey but whichever, to get a roofer to work at height, remove tiles, replace batten and felt for £100 appears cheap.Thoughts:

... replace batten and felt for £100 appears cheap ..... far too cheap."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

If a roof is leaking then rain is getting through the tiles, or slates. This means that the proposed £100 work is nonsense - replacing a piece of felt and a batten will not stop the rain getting through the tiles or slates.
Regardless, £100 is far too cheap to have any concept of a competent job. In addition OP's description of the problem suggests no understanding of what the fault is, nor how it should be rectified. This means OP is a prime candidate to be duped into a cowboy bodge - which from the description of the work, and the quoted price looks likely to be the case.0 -
It's not as cheap as doing nothing, but if it works it'll be cheap!
None of us can tell you if it will work though. Roof leaks can be hard to locate, so if water is tracking down the existing felt then it will just cover up the problem.
There again, if your battens are coming to the end of their useful life, see it maybe as a stop-gap and start saving for a full roof job. If you have concrete tiles, they may be re-usable in that event.0 -
Its not the batten or felt which is causing the leak so the cause of the leak needs to be fixed as well, usually flashings or slipped or cracked tile.
£100 seems extremely cheap, is this the sort of person who removes your tiles then tells you you need a £5,000 repair?0 -
Isn't it possible the battens are rotten and not holding the tiles in the correct place, therefore new battens and refit the tiles should work?0

Battens do not rot- they are treated. Old battens were not treated but will only rot if wet has made extensive contact with them over time. This in turns means a leak through the roof somewhere. The tile fixings could be corroded away allowing this to happen, but if so all the other fixings are likely to be worn out too.
However, mould near the eaves is usually a sign of cold bridging and this has no relevance to the roof felt nor the the battens. This is the obvious route to explore before getting up on the roof. If cold bridging is the correct verdict this means the proposed work is pure smoke and mirrors. But then at £100 what does anyone expect ...?0 -
Thanks for everybody's comments. I am not a roofing expert hence why I posted to make sure I'm not conned.
Some more info - the roofer and myself looked at the roof and I could see that the batten is rotten as further along the eaves the battens are all fine. The felt going underneath the batten and into the gutter is not steep enough (as the fascia I am told is too deep) so I am getting some run back of water. I (am hoping) that the water is not coming in somewhere else, and I did have my ridge tiles repoint a few months ago. The problem is where my house joins the neighbours.
Its a semi detached house with flat roof so roofer has easy access i.e no scaffolding required. I posted a job on ratedpeople this is how he got in touch.
I can afford £100 but don't want to waste my money.0 -

I cannot fathom out what you have. Perhaps post a photo?0 -
The work needs to be done to a pitched roof. Ihave a flat roof garage runnng alongside the house _ so roofer can put step ladder on flat roof to repair pitched roof.0
