Para 7.1 of Screwfix's T & Cs states:-
" Any complaint, query or claim under a manufacturer's warranty, guarantee or similar assurance must be made direct to the manufacturer and we do not have any responsibility or liability under or in connection with any such warranty, guarantee or assurance."

Is this true?? If I have bought something from Screwfix then surely my contract is with them & they should replace it if the item is faulty or doesn't perform. The item spec. on their website says "Manufacturer Guarantee 1 Year" - is there something special about the "Manufacturers" bit that enables them to avoid responsibility?

Are you asking about your guarantee or your consumer rights?

Your consumer rights are with the retailer. Your guarantee is with a manufacturer.

Perhaps stating your issue might help people understand the problem and offer help.

Their terms also state:

Faulty Goods
8.11 Where the goods are being returned because they are faulty or incorrect, we will meet the cost of return delivery but we ask that you allow us to nominate the carrier. Your right to return goods in these circumstances is not limited to the 30 day period in clause 8.1.

8.12 Without prejudice to your right to cancel orders generally under this clause 8, if you have notified us of a problem with the goods within 30 days of delivery or collection, you have a right to reject the goods and receive a full refund, or alternatively we are happy to provide a replacement.

8.13 If an item develops a fault after 30 days following delivery or collection, we may offer a repair or replacement of the item, or offer a price reduction or refund. If the product is to be repaired, and the manufacturer has provided a helpline, repair service or warranty, we may ask you to make contact with the manufacturer direct or we can do this on your behalf. If there is no such service or warranty with the product, in most instances we will either offer a repair or where this is not possible we will replace the item with the same or an equivalent model.

If faulty you can return to Screwfix within the first 12 months , some items if its after 30 days will be sent to the manufacturer for a repair this is mostly tools.

The only time you would be told to deal with the manufacturer is if the fault is after 12 months and you registered your product for an extended warranty.

Previous experience with screwfix is, if the item is less than six months old they!!!8217;ll replace with a new item.

The answer to your direct question is ,yes it is true.


You need to read up on the difference between a manufacturers warranty and your consumer rights. They are not the same.

I have returned a couple of things to screwfix, never had an issue with either a refund or exchange.
