Private parking ticket - I was in yellow box

Hi there,

I am new to this and have read the first thread.

I can’t find anything linked to if you could be considered to be in the wrong.

I received a ticket from a private company a couple of months ago. I was in a yellow box that was signposted outside a gym, they have always said it was fine to park there.

I ignored the letters as I have read before but have kush received one from a debt collecting agency - trace.

The amount has gone up with the usual threats I would expect.

As I could be considered in the wrong and they may have evidence of this should I have paid? Or keep ignoring.

Can they take me to court?

Thanks in advance.

    Hello and welcome.

You need to read post #4 of the NEWBIES FAQ sticky thread where you will find comprehensive guidance on how to deal with debt collector's letters.

Do not ignore any Letter of Claim or official court papers should they appear.

    Who is the parking company?
  • Parking control management was the company.

Go back to the thread index page, that's one click of your back button, then it is currently the second thread on that list, titled:

**NEWBIES!! PRIVATE PARKING TICKET? OLD OR NEW? **READ THESE FAQS FIRST!** Thankyou!

You want the fourth post on that thread.

Come back when you get a LBCCC from Gladstones and read post #2 of the same sticky thread for how to reply, then how to win when defending a claim.

See if you can, in advance, (now) get it in writing from the Gym Manager that patrons ARE told they CAN park there. Get that and you have the winning evidence you will need later.

I am really stressing about this and any further hel would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.

You don't need to, now. No rush, your next step is to complain, as already advised.

You can look at the NEWBIES thread when next on a PC.

  • I appreciate you trying to help but I don’t have a computer it’s hard on my phone.

I don’t know what Gladstone or what LBCCC is?

I’m really confused I just need a step by step on what to do without forums as they are impossible to find on my phone.

Two days ago it was suggested you speak to the gym manager.

What did the gym manager say when you spoke to him?

Re-read post #5. It tells you exactly what to do.

This is an entirely unregulated industry which is scamming the public with inflated claims for minor breaches of contracts for alleged parking offences.

Parking Eye, Smart and a smaller company have already been named and shamed, as has Gladstones Solicitors, and BW Legal, (who take hundreds of these cases to court, and nearly always lose), who have also been reported to the regulatory authority.

The problem has become so rampant that MPs have agreed to enact a Bill to regulate these scammers. Watch the video of the Second Reading in the HofC recently.

and complain in the most robust terms to your MP. With a fair wind most of these companies may well be put out of business by Christmas.
