Used car scandal
Options
Hi,
There have been a few news articles about used cars being wrongly sold under the guise of having a single owner when the vehicle was used as a fleet or hire car. I have had a look at claiming as mine was described as having a single owner when it was owned by Sixt rental, but I'm not entirely sure if this is actually a real legal claim or if it is a scam. If real, there are a few websites that exist to handle claims, but some of them have legal fees of over 25% of the final settlement. Is there a way to claim myself without going through these companies, and if so how much do I ask for? The websites advertising their services suggest between 25% and 100% of the cars selling value (£23k), but this seems quite high to me.
Any advice/info would be appreciated.

Surely they are correct...it has had 1 OWNER. It doesn’t say 1 DRIVER!0

Ask a solicitor?
Why is a car previously owned by a hire company worse than "one careful lady owner. Only drove it to the shops, honest mate!"?
And don't say it's because hire cars are abused. You should see how my sister treats her cars!0 -
Website offering a legal bandwagon in return for a large %age of payback. Well, PPI is more-or-less over, so they need to move their business model on somewhere.
Seriously, where the heck do people think all these ~6-12mo, ~10k mile at most cars are coming from...? Who do they think buys 'em, then changes their mind so flippin' quickly? <shakes head sadly>0 -
In the situation you describe, it did have one previous owner. You have no case.0

It is not a scandal!
If a car has had a car rental company as its only owner it is still one owner. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -

You have no case UNLESS the dealer told you in writing it was NOT a hire car. Which they wont have.
There is no claim.
Out of curiosity, what would your claim be for? Because you feel a bit miffed? Hurt feelings?0 -
Even if information given by a retailer is factually correct, it can still be misleading if it deceives the average consumer and would cause them to take a different decision as a result.
After all, whats the difference between that and stating "1 careful lady owner" when in fact, the car has had 3 owners, just the other 2 weren't careful or weren't female? Its still factual, it has indeed had 1 careful lady driver. But its highly misleading and highly likely to deceive. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
Am I the only person having a sense of deja vue with this thread?0
