Advice on renovating downstairs WC

My downstairs toilet is very dated looking. It is fully tiled. I want to replace the sink and toilet, remove the tiles from the wall, and get it plastered and painted instead. I would also like the floor tiles removed and either retiled or have lino put down. I am just a bit unsure of the right order to do things and wondered if somebody could keep me right.

This is what I think I have to do.

1. Remove tiles from the walls
2. Replace the sink and toilet.
3. Plaster the walls
4. Paint the walls
5. Tile above the sink
6. Remove floor tiles and retile or put lino down.

I have made mistakes with renovations before and would be grateful if somebody could keep me right!

Strip out (everything including the floor tiles)
First fix plumbing and electric ( if needed )
    plastering
finish floor ( if tiling or vinyl planks )
Tile and grout behind the WC
    Fit WC and sink
    Tile splash back for sink
    paint
    Lino (if you want lino)

Lino... gosh... can you still buy the stuff. Vinyl is good and cheap; although I went for tiles (same large size as walls, diff colour). Looks good to me but nothing wrong with your choice.

No heating ? I put in a heated towel rail and as this is MSE, with a thermostatic valve.

Lighting; I changed from tungsten to LED and went for a motion sensitive switch which switches on as you go in, overruns by 2 minutes on exit to keep a fan going. Slight inefficiency there :(

Luxuries; 300 mm wide, 1800 mm (I think) mirror for about £9 from Ikea. Mrs C is impressed by being able to have a final check before going out. Waterfall mixer tap... not naff , honest but hey...

After the strip out and any dirty work, I usually paint the ceiling first, then the lighting; basically top to bottom. Plastering must be early on to avoid messing up your new units, tiles, etc.

A downstairs loo is not my favourite. Days of work, sweating and grunting in a small box. Good luck but it is worth it :)

    You don't have to.

if you have the space you could use furniture for the sink cabinet and concealed cistern
