Online banking - paying TSB

Are there bank accounts to which you cannot make online payments through your online banking?
I operate an account online for a relative under power of attorney. (It is not the bank I use personally).
I have set up some family members to whom small sums (birthday and Christmas presents) are payable from time to time. But for one person, despite trying several times and at different times over 2 or 3 months and double and triple checking their account details, it has proved impossible to set up an online payment. The message each time is that their bank (TSB) "does not accept faster payments".
Is this really the case? Is it possible the relative in question has some kind of "limited" bank account to which online payments are not possible?
[Unfortunately this relative lives nearest to the person for whom I have power of attorney so often makes small payments on their behalf which I would like to be able to reimburse using online banking].
Any thoughts appreciated.

Are you trying to pay to a Savings account rather than an current account ?

Have you taken the account details you have into a TSB branch ?

It is a current account as I double checked the details from a cheque book. I live in a very rural area so just dropping by any bank is a challenge - hence why I prefer to do everything online. The account owner is not very financially aware - they offered to go to the TSB but I am not sure they would be asking the right questions.
  • What's the sort code code?

you can definately make faster payments to tsb current accounts. Try calling tsb and ask them if there is a problem with that particular sort code.

    A couple of possible errors;

    1) missing out the leading zeros in the account number
    2) entering "o" (as in nought) instead of "0" (zero)

I bank with TSB and others and make faster payments, standing orders to TSB without a problem

Thanks all. I have actually now made a test payment from my personal account (should have tried this before) and it was fine. I can only conclude it is some quirk of the online banking system on the other account and probably not worth further investigation, since I can get round the problem by transferring funds to myself and then onwards.

I wonder if the payee has been authorised?
If TSB are on the same system as Lloyds then when a new payee is set up a text or phonecall is made to your registered phone number with a 4 digit code to enter into internet banking?
Perhaps deleting the payee and re instating it might get round the problem.

Whenever I've added a payee (to any of the LBG family) if it failed the phone call verification then the payee doesn't get added.

Has this changed with TSB / Sabadell?
