Help Sainsburys home insurance

Dear Money saving expert people,

I wondered if anyone could help. I bought some thing online and needed to return it as faulty, upon going through my credit card statement, I found that Sainsbury home insurance had taken £89.60 from my credit card. I phoned Sainsbury's home insurance, which was a lengthy process. I rented a property in Newcastle from December 2015-Novemeber 2016, which I got Sainsbury's home insurance. Sainsbury have auto renewed this, I have never received a letter due to not living at the property anymore. I explained this and I was told I needed proof in order to get a refund. I posted proof from the letting agent and I have been given a refund of £4.38 for December 2016 and £78.10 for December 2017.

Would you approach you're credit card company and explain the situation? I have never been informed of an auto renewal and I have never agreed to it.

    Sounds quite reasonable to me. If you haven't advised them you moved they have sent a renewal to the last known address. That renewal would have advised you it would auto renew unless you told them. Aren't you only 7 pound short

    Are you sure? What did the T&Cs say about renewal when you signed up to the insurance. if they state it will be auto-renewed and you accepted them (not reading them is no excuse) then you did agree to it. It's been a couple of years since I had home insurance from then but I'm pretty sure they do auto-renew and do tell you about it in the T&Cs.
  • They provided you cover incase you still lived there, and gave you a proper refund when you proved you didn't.




    Seems pretty straightforward and easy to me.
