Student Loan repayments when not working

Options
I graduated in 2000, and when I started working as a teacher in 2003 I was paying back my loan through PAYE.
I have not worked since having my first child in 2008. I have not given a thought to my student loan since then, as I have not been working, so thought it was all fine to just not be paying.
Today I received a text saying 'hello. we've sent you an important email about your student loan repayment. Please read this and take the relevant action to keep your account up to date'
is this a scam? I've had no email that I am aware of.
Am I right that I don't have to make repayments if I am not earning?

That's correct, no earnings = no payment. It will eventually get written off after about 30 years I think.
