Replacing a very oldCentral heating timer question

Hi everyone,
Hoping someone can help here. Basically I’ve recently moved house and have had a few problems with the central heating timer…it’s from the stone ages.
The old analogue clock is very difficult to use and the on/off switches are clunky and old and feel like they’re going to fall off any day…. so we’ve stopped using them. Due to that, we keep the hot water and heating set to ON all day and just control the heating via the thermostat downstairs. This is obviously costing us more in energy bills than we’d like.
We’d like to replace the central heating timer in our airing cupboard with a brand new digital one so we can set the heating and hot water to come on when we want to but neither of us are very savvy with that type of thing. I can see just from a quick google that a new central heating timer isn’t very expensive at all, but just curious who would I turn to install that type of thing.. a sparky perhaps?
Any feedback/opinions would be appreciated.
Thanks!!!

I had the exact same problem, I thought the easiest solution was to ring up British Gas and ask them to install HIVE Live which they'll do for free if you sign up for a subscription. If you don't care about controlling it from your phone/internet you can cancel within 14 days and they'll just charge you £80. If you do want to control it from your phone (which I find useful at times) cancel after 14 days and they'll charge you £150 (to cancel your subscription)
To me, £80 for a new controller, new thermostat plus BG installed is a bargain.0 -

Ah awesome, sounds like that worked out quite well. My energy supplier is OVO, I don't think they have something similar to Hive so not sure if i'll any luck contacting them?0 -

Any suitably qualified electrician should be able to do this for you.
Or contact a heating engineer with electrical qualifications who should also be able to assist.0
