parkingeye hotel parking ticket

My husband parked in a hotel in Northampton on January 23rd 2018, he bought a ticket, but a couple of weeks later he received a parking fine from parkingeye, he appealed and sent a coy of his parking ticket, they have replied today saying he did not enter his correct registration number but as a gesture of goodwill they will now except £20 which must be paid within 14 days, we really do not want to pay this should we ignore it

do not ignore it unless the keeper wishes to go to court

if they sent a popla code , use it

see the NEWBIES sticky thread for details

tell the keeper to complain to the hotel and get the pcn cancelled

This is an entirely unregulated industry which is scamming the public with inflated claims for minor breaches of contracts for alleged parking offences.

Parking Eye, Smart and a smaller company have already been named and shamed, as has Gladstones Solicitors, and BW Legal, (who take hundreds of these cases to court, and nearly always lose), who have also been reported to the regulatory authority.

The problem has become so rampant that MPs have agreed to enact a Bill to regulate these scammers. Watch the video of the Second Reading in the HofC recently.

and complain in the most robust terms to your MP. With a fair wind most of these companies may well be put out of business by Christmas.

Was the driver a guest of the hotel?
As you have refereed to this as a fine - you have much to learn - dont worry your in the right place
From the Plain Language Commission:

• they have replied today saying he did not enter his correct registration number but as a gesture of goodwill they will now except £20

OR to put it another way

they have replied today saying he did indeed pay for parking, so no-one is at all out of pocket. He did not enter his correct registration number which resulted in a wholly automated system generating some correspondence at minimal cost but as a gesture of goodwill they will now except £20 which reflects an acknowledgment that there is a risk that they will be unable to recover the cost of the parking ticket (at all) at a Court hearing if it gets that far

There. Fixed that for you.

Still want to pay? I wouldn't. But then I'm not averse to writing the odd letter. I cannot deny that it might be faster.

Did they by chance tell you what registration was entered? PPCs have been known to try and enforce where a zero has been mixed up with an 'o.' Such arguments should clearly be met with the reply in Arkell v Pressdram

But whatever you do next, DO NOT ignore ParkingEye.

Presumably they've offered POPLA? That's worth trying but only AFTER the Hotel complaint.

What happened when you complained to the Hotel Manager about this protection racket? That's the first thing to do whenever you get one of these fake PCN rip-offs.

You should read these links and watch the MPs debate in Parliament, to fire you up:

This month, the private parking industry's little game and 'outrageous scam' (Hansard), has been finally been condemned unanimously by MPs in Parliament in the private parking Code of Practice Bill debate, where (guess who?) PARKINGEYE were named and shamed along with their Trade Body, the BPA. Watch it, read it, get it.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

• its about time POPLa charged for the code numbers when ISSUED , not if the PPC argues the claim with them

this situation would stop !

Write bad stuff about the hotel on TripAdvisor, hotels hate that.

The best way would be for POPLA to issue the code numbers themselves, (and charge the PPC for doing so); and then sending the code number to both the PPC and the Driver/RK at the same time; less chance of letters/emails not being received.
• When they said he entered the wrong registration they actually meant he didn't enter his whole registration, but the machine only asked for the two numbers which are on the parking ticket

OK, but tell us how you/he get on with the complaint, ALWAYS do that before starting POPLA which gives you a month from the appeal letter (POPLA codes last just over 30 days).

DO NOT do both at once, PE cancel loads of times when told to, but ONLY before POPLA.
