skin care scam

Hi
just looking for some advice. an elderly lady i know bought some face cream online...paid 4.95. This was in December. From dec to now they have taken 74.94, 84.90, 69.97, 59.87 and 84.87 from her bank account! she has recieved 3 lots of cream and has been advised to send them back to the company..which she has done today. What would be the best course of action for getting some money back for her. I'm so annoyed that these companies can do this to people!

    Whilst they are clearly quite dodgy, you are clearly signing up to a 'subscription' to get multiple face creams, with a 'only pay postage' offer to lure you in:

    If she has sent back the unopened creams tell her to go to her bank and request a debit card chargeback.
  • thankyou for your reply. It's just so easy for somebody so vunerable and not very tech savvy to get confused with this. Im taking her to bank today to hopefully try to sort it.

  • Amazingly (can they not be located and stopped?) these scams are still on the internet and now facebook. My partner paid her £4 delivery fee for FREE TRIAL of Luniesse face cream. (Trial means try it.) Before she could try it they debited her credit card for the £58 and £54 costs. The supplier has left no return address, emails bounce back and tel no no answer.
    RBS/mastercard have said they will look out for future attempts to debit each month but I need ALL my money refunding not just future protection as Mastercard rules from April 12th this year require merchants, when obtaining approval to the first payment, to send the cardholder a message by email or text, with details of transaction amount, payment date, merchant name and clear instructions on how to cancel. NONE of this was done.
    Can RBS/mastercard not chargeback the first debits? My partner was very upset and it looks like this is widespread. To see her devastated by this is awful. I just think of others, especially vulnerable people perhaps on their own, damaged by this.
    I have references of Hong Kong posting, despite the cream sayin "made in usa". Can you help please? I will provide everything I have if you need it.
    It sounds to me a subject for a tv exposure programme.
  • You're reliant on their goodwill, and that is likely to be in short supply unfortunately.

    Whether the product was posted from a different location to where it was made is irrelevant. I bought some Brazil nuts the other day and I live in Kent.
