Start menu problem

Anyone suggest why the cursor has suddenly disappeared from the run/search box of my start menu? Can't get one to appear by clicking there, so basically I've lost the ability to use it.
I'm using Windows 7 Pro.

Try ctrl-alt-delete, in task manager kill the explorer.exe process then add it back. This might avoid the need to reboot.0

Try to reboot your machine if the ctrl-alt-delete doesn't solve the problem.0
