Safguarding Tariff (prepayment cap)

It appears that the Safguarding Cap only applies to those with SMETS1smart meter's not the later SMETS2 versions.

The safeguard tariff will apply to all customers on a tariff which requires them to
prepay, apart from those on “fully interoperable” smart meters, which will be
excluded from the cap

Is unclear what will happen after this deadline or if many may choose to retain their card/key meters instead these already have fully interoperable prepayment meters already however it has made little difference in yearly costs.

Thoses with fully interoperable meters will they face a sustantial hike in price? Having to face a credit check and quickly mounting bills and demands for unaffordable direct debits and other online conditions without possibly being able to use/own a computer or have access online.

So, given the recent report that only 80 SMETS2 meters are currently deployed we can safely say that nobody will be on the Safeguard Cap tariff.
