I have a 2012 KA (mark2) and the original Key Fob no longer electronically unlocks the car. This is due to the contacts within the fob becoming loose and there is nothing that can be done to rectify this.
On advice from a Ford Dealer, I bought a "new" key from eBay (from a scrap dealer) that I was told would be easy to swap the electronics and the blade from the old fob to the new fob, as it's the Fob housing that is at fault.
However, the dealer then said that as it's all based on the Fiat 500, that Ford would be unable/capable of doing the swop.
Inquiries to Fiat dealers were just as confusing when they said, ask Ford...
So...
1) Is this achievable anywhere or have I been sold a duff tale.
2) Any ideas/help I can do this.
Thanks for your help!

Dealer shouldnt really be advising their customers to buy secondhand parts to fix problems like this as its a bit of a gamble.
Best to go to the dealer and buy a new key and have them programme it.0 -

yeah, at a f****n' stupid costWould be cheaper finding a local independent that has the programming kit, not always easy depending where you live..
......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -
I don't see what the issue is as long as you are using all the same internals and it really is the fob housing at fault.
Why would Ford/Fiat do the swop? You would just need to unscrew the housings and transfer the internals from one housing to the other.
There should be no need for any programming.0 -
I did get a new key in the end, and yes, it was a lot of money!
Wanted a spare and that's why I did this. There are no screws to be seen to take it apart, that's why I asked the dealers. And yes again, it would need NO programming as its a simple swop of the internals.
The question remains though....how?0 -

try this: (although its a Fiat design I think Ford used their own key )

Thanks Tiexen but
Nope, the KA key does not split in half like that one does, it is 2 halves laterally/longways and there is 1 screw under the Ford plaque, but undoing that releases nothing......
Don't want to force it apart and break something as that would defeat the point of buying a new fob housing.
Lots of videos for a Ford fob and lots for replacing the battery, but it's definitely a Fiat 500 key type and battery replacement videos don't tell me how to separate the 2 halves
This is the closest to what I have https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_1f6VMLAbHI
But it most definitely doesn't come apart as easily as that guy does it! I just cannot get the blade end apart!0
