Thank you Bowlhead for your time and to everyone else who has contributed. You have certainly given us lots to think about.
It seems to me there are a few things we need to do going forward. I think I need to study some of the alternative funds that Zurich offer to see how they compare to the Managed AP fund. The Managed AP fund has admittedly done well over the last few years and I now feel there is no urgency to rush and reduce our equity exposure. There is also no need to transfer to a SIPP unless the Zurich funds prove to be unsuitable.
Secondly, I can understand how S&S Isas can be beneficial going forward. I had never considered that but I can see where you are coming from and it certainly makes sense.
I understand that he could take a lump sum of 25% completely tax free right now. If he did this he could either invest in a S&S ISA right away and therefore have a larger choice of funds for that amount. Or, could he give me some or all of that money (£6000) to put in my pension? I earn around £9000 pa and currently only contribute about £250 a month to my pensions in total so I am not above my limit. I obviously don't want to fall foul to the recycling rules.
Am I right in thinking that when you draw your 25% tax free from UFLMPS your annual limit for contributions to any of pension reduces to £4000 per annum. Not that I think that is a concern, but just checking.
