Really £300+ to replace bearings on Bosch washer?

Says it all in the title really, I'm 99% sure the my 9 year old Bosch needs new bearings (grinding noise, poor spin rotation, drum moves against the seal...), but the estimate I have to fix it is over £300.
I'd try it myself except 1) most of that estimate was the parts cost, and 2) having taken a look at a youtube instruction video, I'd be basically taking the whole thing apart
So not sure if this is really just a vent from me, or if anyone can tell me that I'm being stupid and *here's* how to fix it for a hundred quid, but right now, I think I'm looking at a replacement and hope that it doesn't entirely seize up in the meantime...

Nine years is a pretty good lifespan for a washing machine. I wouldn't be spending £300 to fix it because at that age, something else is likely to go wrong soon. I'd put the £300 towards a new machine.0

If it really costs that amount time to get a new machine. A washing machine repair man told me LG are some of the best on market he has one.0

I would not run it in it!!!8217;s current state especially if go out after setting it to wash. Faulty washers are a common cause if house fires, and knackered bearings cause over heating.0

Well wouldn't that be ironic, given that I managed to get my old 'firetrap' Whirlpool dryer replaced last year!
Anyway, thanks for everyone's comments, I've just popped back here from looking at washing machine reviews, so I guess you can see where I'm heading with this one. And no, I won't be leaving the washer on when I'm out  Sadly there are not a lot of launderettes in my neck of the woods, so can't just bin it immediately...0 -
£300 for bearings? Really?
Just looked at a tutorial for Bosch bearing replacement, and although yes, it is a big pull apart, the bearings just look like ordinary ones.
Get the number off them and get replacements from one of the bearing suppliers online. They really should only be a few quid. (provided that they aren't "special"
TBH though, We buy cheap machines. What's on offer at the time that does the job we want it to. Anything beyond minor easy DIY fix, and we get another. . .0 -
£300 for bearings? Really?.
These things are often designed in such a way to prevent easy replacement of the bearings. So £300 for a new drum assembly doesn't sound too outlandish.
If the drum can be dismantled, then it is certainly worth the couple of quid for new bearings. However, the OP would probably have to tackle the job themselves. Paying someone to do it could quite easily chew in to the £295 saving. Her courage will change the world.
Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.0 -

£181+VAT was what the nice Bosch lady said was the parts cost for a bearing kit. Uh Huh...
Anyway, there's no chance I'm dismantling the machine to save a few bob versus getting a replacement that's probably long overdue and needed. We're in a hard water area and the thing has never seen a box of Calgon, so I can only imagine what it will look like. 9 years for a £400 machine is decent enough in my book...
Plus Beko seem to be getting decent reviews for a sub-£300 model. Life's too short0 -
The bearings was going on our Miele dishwasher so my husband rang a business he used to buy bearings for his lorry and as it was two lots of bearing they cost £20 and he fitted them himself he had to take the bearings to the shop and they matched them up. But 2 years later the dial on the dishwasher wouldnt automatically turn and he couldn't fix that but it was 28 years old0

Just checked New Bosch Machine £349. Really not worth repairing a 9 year old one!0
