Final Bill and Refund

Hi!

I recently switched energy suppliers and for an email to confirm the switch had been done on the 4th of Feb.
I was just wondering how long I need to give my old supplier to issue a final bill and refund my credit (there is quite a bit of it) and if there is any way I can hurry them along? We’ve just had a house offer accepted so I’d much rather have it sooner, rather than later.

Thanks

Under EU Law and Standard Licence Conditions, the losing supplier has to use its REASONABLE efforts to provide you with a Final Bill within 6 weeks of the date that the supply was transferred to your new supplier. On switch, all meter readings have to be verified by an industry partner. This can take 10 days. Most suppliers will raise a Final Bill shortly after they receive the verified readings. Some of the smaller suppliers appear to be following the 6 week rule to the day. Depending on the amount of credit, suppliers also have an escalating approvals process which can take anything from 5 days onwards.

Thank you. I had a quick google but just wanted to confirm that I had got it right.
It is Economy Energy, so I think they may drag it out. Do you know if it is worth my time calling to see if they can speed it up? Don't want to waste my time listening to hold music if there is no point.;)

There is no harm in it but you may just be wasting your time.

I will be around 2 weeks after the swtich before you can expect the old supplier to receive the switch reading from the new supplier. Best to first ask them if they have received this reading, if they say yes then ask how long before you can expect a refund.

It has taken Bristol Energy 12 weeks and more for me - only after a rather sarcastic email i sent have they bothered to do anything about it.

Still waiting for the bill though

Ha, forget your 12 weeks, who cares about the legal 6 weeks... Ovo Energy are just about to hit 1 year :T Mind you, they owe me a mere £1.24 plus the promised 3% interest on positive balances, no chance there methinks.

I've rung Ovo a couple of times to get "the cheque is in the post", so I've launched a complaint (well, I've been given a complaint number) although Ovo have said they will ignore the complaint.

The real reason I want the cheque is to test out the new Halifax cheque imaging scheme :)
