Speky go for it - my DH moved from Kirkcaldy to Blackpool in 1989 for work. You will only be just over 3h from Glasgow by train, easier on you than driving2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

Afternoon all,
Sorry to hear more sad news JackieO.
Ive been in town this morning,I needed a new watch strap-being white it had got absolutely grotty underneath.Bought birthday cards for DH who is 65 on Friday, yikes how did that happen .He was 3 days off being 19 when we met,I was 16 and at school with his sister & other friends introduced us,so thinking about it ,it is actually the 46th anniversary of our 1st dateI have got him a kindle as a surprise and loaded some books on it.Its like mine- a paperwhite with a back light,so he can read in bed.
Just eaten some spiced swede soup,a recipe I got off the al di website after my friend recommended it,still some left.I bought some salmon off the market for tea.
RRuby,DH & I went to Skiathos a few years ago & really enjoyed it.
Right I'm going to dig my sewing machine out and make some net bags to put my greengroceries in so I can avoid plastic bags,I've cut them out already.I noticed a stall on the market selling fabric, which is good news, there hasnt been one on there for ages.
Have a good day, whats left of it anywayxx

Speky
I agree with the others telling you to go for it. It is not as if you could not get back for visits every few weeks and cheap air fares could make travel easier.
The weekend visit to relatives was lovely and has really given me a boost. I finally got round to doing something about the window in the kitchen that would not open and has been annoying me for over two years.
Someone came round this morning and changed the handle and also had a look at the dodgy unit in the conservatory. The upper section needs repairing and someone is going to phone me back.
I had home made soup for lunch and enjoyed it and made some mash to have with the stew I made a couple of days ago. Washing machine has been on but might need to use the tumble drier. Can't wait for Spring and being able to hang laundry outside and go out without a heavy coat.
Cranky
I am so glad that your leg is finally healing. It seems to have taken ages for you to go back and forth for dressings etc.
Hugs to all0 -
Afternoon all.
Still blooming cold but the sun is shining like a mad thing. Work was fine and I did enjoy not having anything to 'catch up' on.
I've made a 'rehearsa'l cake just to see if I can still do it. I chose Mary Berry's easy chocolate cake which is cooling now. Think I need to add more cocoa. Her recipe calls for the cocoa powder to be mixed with water and added rather than just sieve in with the flour. I may just revert to type next time. Now I'll cut and fill with cream and do some decoration. I want to make a really good one for DM's birthday so need to ace this. It'll go to my work colleagues to eat tomorrow.
Speky - go for it! I'm sure that your parents and gran would not want to hold you back from career advancement. Both my brother and I moved away, he to Australia and me to Newcastle upon Tyne. John came back often as part of his job and I drove up every six weeks or so. Now I'm back in the bonny land I see DM every weekend as she's ageing and getting frail. Who knows what the future holds for you and your family. Take every opportunity by the tail and shake it around. A new adventure!
Cranky - your healing sound fabulous, well done on your persistentence and determination. One of my friends also had a huge hole in her knee following surgery - she was given a seaweed based dressing to stuff in the hole and now it's almost closed.
Holiday talk :j Now I know that spring is just round the corner though the one mention of the 'c' word was a shock to my sensitive system. Just seen the back of 'c' and here it is again.:rotfl:
Right, off to see if I can half the cake yet, might be too soon.0 -
Cranky brilliant that you are healing and the hole is reducing. In 2007 I had a mastectomy and was left with a hole that needed packing daily by the smashing district nuses who came every day.
At one point it was a hollow across my chest the length inside of a pencil and they used to pack it with this silver coloured tape every morning for around 2-3 months,it slowly got shorter and shorter and I was so pleased when eventually it closed up.
I took a large box of chocolates round to the surgery for the girls they were so good and so patient bless them .
One new little lass who came with the older one had obviously started her new placement and was so gentle and I said don't worry I can't feel a thing there as the nerves had all been cut during the operation (never have got the feeling back either) I thought it would have been a great place to smuggle something though
;)It started off taking a whole roll of this tape which was about 12 yards and slowly reduced over time. Amazing how the body eventually heals itself though.
Coffee morning was good this morning, and I got all of the shopping I needed, and even got a couple of large sirloin steaks reduced to £5.60 in the Dobbies deli bit. what a bargain.
I took them home and cut them in half and that will do me for four meals easily.
Rain has set in with avengence here at the moment, and the boys will soon be in from school dripping wet and hungry no doubt
but forecast is dry for the rest of the week ,if a bit nippy
Have a good evening chums I am off to quiz night tonight
Speky Its hard to make a decision on majot moves but nothing ventured nothing gained who know what adventures are in store for you in Mancland, they are footie mad there as well
Cheers chums

Afternoon all.
Well the whirlwind ( DGD ) went home about an hour ago, my she can keep you on your toes, as no sooner have you finished one thing she's on to the next . Must say though that she has been as good as gold.
I have tidied the toys and crafting stuff away and hoovered the downstairs, now I'm knack er............. tired out :rotfl:.
Mr Fix It has retired himself to his shed and I'm firmly stuck to the sofa ! I feel like I should be outside doing something as the sun is shining, but I have no energy left. I may treat myself to an indulgent bubble bath later. I am not cooking tea tonight, so there, I've decided ( stamps foot). I think we will just have a snack as we had toasted sandwiches for lunch and they were quite filling. I will ring Dad tonight to make sure he's ok and then ask him to come to tea on Thursday ( I believe it's one of his club days tomorrow ). I'm not sure what tomorrow will bring as Mr Fix It has an oncology review appointment in the morning. Good or bad news we shall be having lunch out too.
JackieO I was so sorry to hear about Ronnie. I offer my sincere condolences to you and your family.
Cranky good job sorting out your leg problem.
Speky your Mum and Gran will love you no less if your'e 2 miles, 20 miles or 200 miles away, because that's what Mums/Grans do. They have unconditional love and they will always be there for you ( and vice versa ). This could be a brand new chapter in the life of Speky !
Tru is Scampi still giving you " the look "
Nelski Have I missed you ? I hope the boys in blue haven't carted you off because of your admission over the hotel smellies :rotfl:
Hope everyone is having a goodish day. Hugs to all.

Afternoon all
DGS went home at 3.15 and like Nannyw I am ....er tired out. We went to soft play this afternoon which was nice because it was really cold out The local soft play is run as a business enterprise by the local church. It is lovely as the staff know everyone and are very friendly.
Dinner is in the slow cooker and is a butterbean cassoulet. One of Jack Monroe's recipes. I am looking to eat more vegan meals but I am finding it quite challenging. Needs must though as I made a beef lasagne last night for dinner and couldn't face it. All this stuff on the telly about meat suppliers is a bit worrying. Yesterday I bought some nutritional yeast so may sprinkle a bit on top. DH is game but a little dubious.
Well Specky I am another one saying follow your dream. My daughter went to work in Japan for nine years. She flew home every year and we visited regularly. She fell in love with a Japanese guy and married him but it didn't work out. We were there when our grandson was born. She is now home, a single parent and we see them most days. Who knows what the future holds?
So anyway have a good evening all. Hugs and spoons all round.

Son in law has just been to pick up Livewire. We have had a lovely time and it will continue tomorrow. Will have a bit of a rest now before starting the tea but someone give me a kick if I start to snooze as I've got stuff I want to do.
Quiet night in front of the telly for me I think. I'm trying to ignore the hounds who want to go out...Just 5 more minutes please. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Hi SPEKY here's another vote for "go for it" As Floss says you'll be up and down to Glasgow by train in no time.
It's been another glorious day with blue sky and sunshine all the way. Sadly not taken advantage of it. I've been busy doing nothing instead! Well I made individual shepherds pies this morning - one for Mr TA's tea today and the others for the 3 DGDs when they arrive one after the other from their various clubs, dance classes etc tomorrow in readiness for a sleepover.
This afternoon I have been doing battle with a new freeview box and aerial for the tv we have transferred to youngest DGDs bedroom. It took numerous attempts before it found any channels!
CRANKY good news about your leg. Light at the end of the tunnel at last. NANNY good luck tomorrow at the oncology review hope the news is as good as it can be. (We are at the Oncology clinic on Thursday but just for the monthly injection this time),( Still awaiting a date for the ureteric stent change)
Have a nice evening folks if you can and take care xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: shhhhhhh i haven't hidden the evidence yet ...mind you saying that I gave mum some hand cream today so i guess she's an accomplice now
Been out with the fence today (:D) which actually was a reasonable day out relatively speaking. her memory is shot to bits now so conversation is somewhat repetitive . 3 times she asked if I had been to Costco on the way and 3 times I told her I was going on the way home. She asked me twice if I had seen Coronation St which was a bit concerning as we had had a long convo about what happened the first time then 10 mins later asked me againIts sad to see her deteriorating now and makes for a very frustrating day but my patience remains in tact atm
So in case anyone has forgotten I went to Costco on the way homeManaged to attach my blinkers and only bought my list stuff which was boring stuff like mince, loo rolls and kitchen towels although I did pick up some very lovely looking chicken kievs for my [STRIKE]lazy[/STRIKE] recouping days ahead.
Jackie how sad you have lost another family member so soon Im sure the year will start to improve for you soon
Speky grab that new job with the energy you seem to have for everything else you d. Your mum and nan will absolutely want you to take all the opportunities offered. Let me know if you decide to take it up I am near to Manchester so could help you eat any spare cake you have left over willingly  By the way I did a contract for 18 months in Glasgow a couple of years ago so did both flying or train every Friday and Sunday  I preferred the train personally as you get there quicker taking all the phaff at the airport into consideration. Anyway good luck sunshine what ever you decide
nanny hope tomorrow goes well and enjoy your lunch .....do you want to buy some knock off shampoo btw?:D
Right best try to fit my finds in the freezer....yeah Im having a larf!!0
