Best time to buy a laptop?

Hi everyone I'm currently considering buying a new laptop but I'm not sure if i should get one now or if i should wait till after Christmas before making a purchase. I've just looked at the laptops at dell and they all seem pretty overpriced for the specifications there offering I also saw this laptop at pc world http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/product/seo/000229 which seemed like a great price for the specs but it's a bit out of my price range but it's just so tempting so I'm not sure if i should wait a bit to see if the prices will come down any opinions?

  • Be careful with refurbs - they're often machines that were faulty and which have been repaired. You don't know what you're taking on. And Compaqs weren't the most reliable in my experience (though not as bad as some).

If you do get it, make sure you get a recovery disk (or that the recovery sector hasn't been trashed and you can still make one) otherwise you'll find yourself paying HP/Compaq £30 for one if you need it later.

Having said that, that machine is over £700 new, so that's not a bad deal if it has everything with it. You'd be hard pushed to get a discount that big at any time of year.
  • hey thanks for your advice you made some good points I think you might be right about the compaq laptop the price sounds too good to be true even if it is a recon which probably means pc world are'nt telling the whole truth on what they're offering. I think I still might wait till after christmas I'll probably not find a laptop as good as the one above but im thinking/hoping i can find a good one in the christmas sales maby just an original core duo.

If you're looking at Dells have a look at https://www.dmxdimension.com they list the best Dell offers. Also with Dells you need to knock the warranty down to the standard one year warranty to get the best price.
It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die
