I've got 3 red dot tefal pans, 2 large and 1 small , have had them for years and they're great, sturdy but not heavy, non stick is in great condition. I only use either wooden or silicon spatulas or spoons in them and just hand wash in soapy water

Funny you said that. I was in Dunelm at the weekend, saw the pans, remembered this thread and thought "how much?"

I thought they were seriously expensive in there

In JL they were £54.99 :eek::eek: for that price I would want a years supply of food to cook in them :):):) But they do look very good and I am definitely tempted ,but not at that price.Bit more online research today and a natter with eldest DD as she is pretty good at finding bargains :)

One thing to remember is that old phrase "how much use will you get out of it?"

An expensive pan, if you're cooking for 4-6 people every day and using it 3-4x a week you will get a lot of use over 30-40 years ...... but if you're home alone and only eating alone at home 2-3x a week .... then the pan might only come out 1-2x a month for something small: a single fried egg ... 2 sausages and one piece of bacon and a bit of fried bread .... a late night 2 egg omelette.

So .... how much use will you get out of it? If a good brand/quality Red Dot will already outlive you, there's no need to spend more. You could spend the difference on food to put into the pan and treat yourself to a special "Launch Night Fry Up" :) .... several times when you look at the price difference.

well I had a good look around in JL plus even went to Lakeland as well and came home without one and am still having a ponder.I must admit the circulon one is looking the one I would really like and its got a 10 year guarantee,(wish I could have one of those :):):)) I shall have a think and see if I can persuade myself that I can justify spending such a lot of cash in one lump :) will weigh up the pros and cons. Islandmaid it really does look very nice :):)

I bought a Tefal red dot and a small Circulon in TK Maxx this week both MUCH cheaper than the same ones in JL and LLand. It is worth checking the TK Online site as the kitchen stuff is often on there.
  • I!!!8217;ve got 2 tefal frying pans, 1 large and a small omelette size one. Had them for approx 10 years. Both still in great condition.

Red Dot frying pans are long lasting enough, if looked after - IE don't use metal utensils or scour them, and most of all, don't cook on a very high temp. They are on special buy in Tesco at the moment, I keep meaning to pick one up as my large one has stopped being non stick, mainly down to DH using a scourer on it

Would be seriously concerned about any aging non-stick pans. Wasn't that long ago when people thought DDT, Asbestos, BPA etc were safe.
Don't use them myself but bought a friend some Le Creuset ones for Christmas.... not had any complaints.

Point I was making is that maybe with today's knowledge the non-stick coating in older pans is made with bad stuff.
  • JackieO, I told you that mine was Tefal and it isn't, I'm sorry. It is made by Pyrex.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back

I apologise for being a latecomer to this thread :( (I have only just found it). But I hope you might still find the following helpful.

My husband came home with a new frying pan a few months ago. It's called a Skoville (also spelt Scoville) Neverstick, 28cms. I believe these pans are available at 20cms, 24cms and 30cms as well. He bought ours from Asda for £18, but a quick Google suggests they're available from other outlets including Dunelm, Argos and Ebay.

    https://direct.asda.com/george/home-garden/pots-pans/scoville-neverstick-frying-pan-28cm/001485527,default,pd.html

He'd picked up this pan on impulse, mainly because our 15yo lad has taken to making himself fried egg sarnies recently and was struggling with our ancient (uncoated) pan. I probably wouldn't have given it a second glance, myself, because it seems a bit gimmicky at first glance (to me, anyway). But a few months down the line, and I'm really rather pleased with it!

What I like most about it is that I can really cut down on the amount of oil I use to fry with; it's very light compared to other pans of its size; it's very easy to clean after use (I wash up the old-fashioned way, but it says it's dishwasher proof as well); and it's non-stick but without the traditional non-stick coating that can be damaged and start to flake off.

I can't comment on durability in the longer term, of course, and I don't think these pans have been around for longer than a couple of years in any case. But they're relatively inexpensive and claim to come with a lifetime guarantee, so time will tell. They also claim to be 100% safe to use on all cookers including induction, according to the blurb.

Searching for customer reviews, purchasers seem to be delighted with their pans. Nearly all of the online reviews I've come across have been 4 and 5 star. That's always an encouraging sign! :D

Yay one of my Mothers Day gifts from my eldest DD this morning was a circulon frying pan ,bless her I have been humming and harring over whether or not to get one and she decided to make my mind up, and got me one, and its fantasic

Just made breakfast and absolutely nothing stuck and its washed up like a dream :)

She also, as a treat, bought me some amazing Jo Malone hand and body wash that probably cost a small fortune but smells abosolutely divine as its the red roses one. I love Jo Malone fragrances, but their prices are eye-watering at times, but Oh so nice:):). Along with dinner out last nigh,t I have been a very well-looked after Mum, and my youngest DD is coming this morning as well bless her, and said to make sure the kettle is on,so I am indeed a very lucky lady this morning

    JackieO xx
