  • We have this table from ikea, as does a friend who also likes tohost dinner parties. Honestly the best table I've ever owned. it extends beautifully and gives a smooth surface even when only one extension is used. We've currently got secondhand chairs with it, but friends of ours made the smart choice to buy mismatched pairs of chairs, on the basis that if they ever needed to replace them they wouldn't need to replace the whole set. Also, there's over a foot's difference in height between them, so E can have a chair with nice long legs that holds a cushion well and S can have a low seat with plenty of space for his legs, while the chairs have enough stylistic elements in common (painted wood, scandi-style design, etc) to look very stylish together.

Wooden dining table with 6 chairs and a table with 4 chairs from ikea. The wooden table has curving designs and looks classic while ikea table is made of steel and fiberglass. I'd recommend using a top glass for tables and if your particular about the chairs you can just have it custom made so you set the size preferences.

I know you're not asking for suggestions, but it could be worth having a look at your local British Heart Foundation shop if you have one.
I picked up a really great looking table & 6 chairs for about a tenth the price of a similar new one.

We picked up a dining table and 6 chairs (2 carvers, 4 standard) from eBay. We thought we'd have the table in its smaller form all the time but actually we've left it fully extended, we use one end to eat and the other is an 'activity' end for our son. Our chairs don't have padding back; the current seat material has some marks and stains, I will eventually get around to recovering the seats but it's low on the priority list :D

  • So I don!!!8217;t really know how to describe in words the thing that really annoys me about a lot of dining tables! But I!!!8217;ll try! Lol!
It!!!8217;s the rectangular !!!8216;carcass!!!8217; that the table top would sit directly on. I hope that makes sense?! Anyway sometimes these carcass panels extend a few cm below the table top and if you are tall/ bigger/ have tallish chairs then your legs don!!!8217;t fit under the table properly. Either you can!!!8217;t fit your knees under, or if you can then the tops of your thighs get squished against this piece of wood.
It!!!8217;s a really picky detail but one that really annoys me! So for this I second making sure you try the chairs, but go further in that you should try your chosen chair with the chosen dining table - even if you have to drag the chair from one side of the showroom to the other!
