car repair taking too long?

Hi, my vehicle was involved in an accident 1 month ago. The vehicle is a 66 ford focus ecoboost and had front end damage. It didnt seem like massive damage, it needed bumpers, bonnet, radiators, headlights etc,on the 1st feb they said after stripping it down they had found out the chassis legs needed replacing. Ive had a couple of estimated completion dates from the insurer and when i spoke to the garage last week they said that they'd be expecting the parts on thursday and that i should ring back monday to see if the car was radio.

Ive rang them today to be told that the parts are still on 'back order' whatever that means and they have no idea when the parts will be with them. Too me this seems to be taking the mick now. Is this ordinary or should i be putting more pressure on them now to get this sorted? I have a family and am having to make do with a small fiesta :(

Back order basically means they are not able to get them from the supplier as their supplier doesn't have them in stock & is awaiting the parts coming in.

Maybe Ford are waiting on a supplier to provide them with whats needed to make the parts for your car.

Just because they might be Ford parts it doesn't mean Ford stock them. It doesn't even mean that Ford make them.
  • Parts go out of stock all the time, they get back ordered and sent on when they arrive. You have been given a means of getting from a to b without walking, be content with your lot in life.

I've regularly had to wait on parts for my Mondeo. You could take it elsewhere but the answer will be the same. If Ford don't have the parts on stock they don't have them and they're not going to routinely stock loads of chassis legs. Given the time of year and how many front end accidents there will be due to icy roads I would expect there to be a bit of a delay. The garage can't magic up parts a supplier doesn't have and whilst I suspect there are aftermarket suppliers it would invalidate any warranty you have to use them.

I had a 5 or 6 week wait for a Saab front bumper.
  • I'm still waiting for my car, last week i had a phone call from the garage to say thieves had been into my car and rummaged through my belongings. They have a policy of leaving most cars unlocked to avoid damage to vehicles. I dont think anything has been stolen but i cant say for sure. I couldnt see if there was any damage to the interior as the light was bad and the car had been left a mess. When i rang the insurer a few days later they hadnt been informed of this. They asked me to send them an email on monday but ive not heard back from them. I dont know if i should be complaining more. what would you do?

Why are "your belongings" in the car whilst it's away for repair?
