Life is to be lived isn't it? not just idled away and older folks still have the zest to actually 'live' rather than waste precious time being idle. I love walking, it's the best thing to fill time that isn't being usefully used and I can think my own thoughts, meet friends and catch up on news, admire the scenery, keep an eye open for the first flowers of the species in bloom, see birds and enjoy the changing colours of the river, watch the seasons, oh all manner of things. The main thing is to 'live' and enjoy the living.0

I also upcycle old junk
I like sanding down, undercoating and then top coating stuff usually picked up for very little at boot sales etc or junk shops. I am anotherjgsaw fan and have a couple of sites on my lap-top that I enjoy, and if you search you will find freebie sites

Make some money by doing online surveys?
I usually get my model kits out on rainy days.0 -
I agree with JackieO. U3A is brilliant and I have made many friends since I joined after my husband died.
I also go to the Rotary Silver Screen once a month and take advantage of the Meercat 241 cinema tickets with a friend.
There are 'free' talks/events at my local library, which can be very interesting.
I have joined my local WI and Over 60s club (both walking distance from my home).
I find most weekends there is not much on, as people are with their families (my family live 150 miles away).
I have made a very good friend through joining U3A and we try to arrange things together on a weekend and share the driving.
I have also made a lovely friend through MSE and we keep in touch and talk on the phone often.
Well, it's time to get a move on as I am going to U3A Health & Harmony Group, which is a meditation group.

the good thing about photography is you can do it in all weathers so long as you avoid getting the camera too wet0

my knitting finger is fully rested and joint no longer inflamed, so when it becomes very cold, I will stay in and knit while listening to audible. I have sherlock on at the moment. Another day I might well play around with plasticine and some tools and make a model to replicate in wood. It will be so much easier when I have my new home, I am looking for a space attached to the house, garage/workshop/insulated conservatory. At the moment my garage is away from the house and I can`t play around with carving tools in the house, no vice0

People ask me what I do to stop being bored all the time .I am never bored. Been retired 14 years next month and got very bad arthritis in my knee and as I don't drive am stuck inside most days.Starting on Sundays church twice, Monday is the Womens Guild, Tuesday is The Friendly Hour a knitting group. Wednesday I have a day out free bus pass to wherever and a tea in a caf! somewhere. Thursday is retired teachers and Friday I meet up with 10 pals I acquired over the years in the local hotel. Saturdays I go to a coffee morning.
I joined Future Learn last year and recommend it easy stuff just educating yourself about a topic of interest by watching short videos.
I read and read a lot Bookbub sends me an email each day with the type of books I like and I download the free ones from Amazon.
I have a huge garden that is growing a bit wild as I can't bend to look after it but I still love to look out on the snowdrops showing through the frost just now.
I joined facebook a few years ago mainly to see photos of family far away but have joined loads of craft sites and books clubs on facebook where I can read and chat whenever I feel like it.
I am going to an authors event this weekend to meet my 2 favourite authors and looking forward to discussing their newest books. It involves a long journey and a few taxis and a stay in a hotel ( hope the lift works this time)
Yesterday I got someone to empty a cupboard of dishes and wipe the shelves for me. I washed all the dishes and off said person went with lots of casserole dishe s and huge serving plates and a teaset.
She is coming back next week to do the airing cupboard.
Get a copy of the local paper each week and find out if there is anything on that you would like to attend.0 -
Another vote for U3A, it has been a lifesaver for me after being widowed. Over 40 different interest groups and cheap, usually only the price of coffee. I am not a very confident driver but I find group members very helpful with lifts when trips are organised. I try to write myself a list of things that need doing as otherwise I keep putting them off. It isn't easy adjusting to widowhood but for me having aims and challenges keeps me going as I hate going to bed feeling I have achieved nothing.0

Books, the BBC and hot drinks...I'd be quite contented to squirrel myself away all winter.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!
"No man is worth, crawling on the earth"- adapted from Bob Crewe and Bob Gaudio
Hope is not a strategy...A child is for life, not just 18 years....Don't get me started on the NHS, because you won't win...I love chaz-ing!

lol, I am sure I have the hibernating gene too
It is lovely and sunny at the moment and I have been doing a bit of weaving, making a 1" long band on my inkle look. Did about 8" just now and it will eventually make bag straps. The first bag will be a padded carry bag for the inkle loom, which will come apart
I tried jigsaws once, not for me and in fact I have a wrapped ravensburger ready to give to a dd to give to her mil who is jigsaw addicted
I am never bored but like to end each day on what I call a positive note ie having achieved something. I have been very busy prepping each room, getting rid of clutter, so that moving should be relatively easy, I am looking for a house at present. Looking for one with equal or more sq footage plus a bigger garden plus workshop/garage, I have plenty of energy and need this new start going forward. Doing KM on each room has been wonderful, very engrossing and very positive but I have finished and that is when the procrastination raised its ugly head, just for a minute0
