Printer offline ??

Options
Recently had reason to disconnect printer (Canon MX 310), later reconnected it. Days later tried to print - printer offline it said.
Checked the USB cable - made sure both ends were firmly in their sockets/ports - still no luck.

Extra info - use Windows 10.

Who should I try - Canon help, the PC supplier (2012), or windows help??

Unless anyone has got any ideas for a cure?

Go to Printers and Scanners in the Settings dialog or just type "Printers and scanners" into the Cortana/search bar.

Find your printer, click on it and "Open Queue". Click the printer menu on the next box and untick where it says "Printer offline".

This is almost always caused by your plugging the printer into a different USB port than the one it was in before.

Also that printer is not supported under Windows 10 according to Canon. A future update to Windows 10 may stop it working altogether. Just FYI.

Thanks - after several clicks - the 'offline' disappeared. However still won't print! Now I get printer error!
Been in touch with Canon support, tried a few things, but no, so I've been escalated!!
Hopefully the call-back won't take too long - fingers crossed. Still at 'the end of the day' at the moment it's an inconvenience.

But any other guidance/ideas in the meantime always welcome.

If Canon cannot help, you're a bit stuck...guess you've done the usual...
    1. switch off printer (press off button on printer - not at wall)
    2. restart (NOT shutdown) computer
    3. switch on printer - what does windows10 say?
If you put your general location in your Profile, somebody here may be able to come and help you.

Rebooting Windows often offers a quick fix. If not, try (re)start windows printing service ?

Been experiencing the same problem with my HP Deskjet 305A. So fed up going around in circles. Last night in desperation I uninstalled the printer. Working fine today.

Canon is your only real hope.

If it is a special printer, I would set up virtualbox, install an old version of windows. If that too did not work may partition the disk and put on and old windows installation.

    remove printer USB cable
go to printers and scanners, click on devices and printers at top left.
Click your printer and then click "print server properties" at the top.

Click the drivers tab, choose "change driver settings" and then remove the driver and driver package.
(you may need to stop and start the spooler first)

    reboot computer
    attach printer
