Being the good citizen that I am, I tried to report a BT green cabinet that has been vandalised and knocked over exposing the ground cables to the elements but the person on the other end of the phone made it impossible
I told them straight off that I could not give a postcode but if they opened up a google map at my address I could point out from that exactly where the box was but she just kept harping on about needing the postcode location of where the box is and would not listen to anything that I said in relation to its location.
Quite simply *Stuff Em*

Are they identified by a number on a plaque or something? Perhaps that's the only way the location can be identified.0

Nothing on the box to even identify who it belongs to, I asked a Virgin engineer if he knew and his answer was that all the green boxes of that type in this area belonged to BT Openreach.0 -
Sounds like it's a mandatory thing for their system and lack of initiative from the call handler. If it were visible from your house, you could have tried giving them your postcode - it may just be where they dispatch the engineer to.0

It willl be an offshore call centre (possibly India) where they are trained to follow a script. They will not have the ability to go off the script.
Could you not have given your own postcode?0 -
Normally have a painted number on the side end of the cabinet0

Or to access Google Maps. Many call centres don't allow staff to access the internet from their work stations.0 -

I did (see first post) but she said it was no use and would only deal with the postcode of the box even though it is less than 100 yards from my house.0 -
So why did you not want to give the postcode?0
