Timeframe for viewing properties with LISA

Hi,

We’re looking to buy our first home and had a question about the optimum timing for looking and making offers.

We currently have most of a deposit, some of which is in LISAs; these will mature in mid June. It could take 30 days for Skipton to transfer the funds to our conveyancer. Ideally we would like to exchange as close as possible to this time.

I’ve seen the MSE page on the full timeline of buying, but reading the thread on ‘waiting to exchange’ it seems like it’s quite common to take much longer. If we wanted to exchange towards the end of June when is a realistic time to start viewing places? We don’t want to waste people’s time as we won’t be proceedable until June/ July.

Many thanks!

  • I think you might find you get some !!!8216;how long is a piece of string!!!8217; replies. There are too many variables - would you be in a chain? What if the chain above you collapsed? Searches might uncover something that takes longer to resolve than first thought?
I believe an !!!8216;average!!!8217; timeframe is approx 12 weeks so maybe work with that? Start looking end of March, but be prepared that your ideal timescale might not work out and you!!!8217;ll just have to accept it.
