Help with paper weight for advertising flyer pleas

Hey guys,

I am designing a flyer (A5) for a business, and on coming to order it to be printed, have found many options to paper types and thickness/weight. I've worked out what finish i am having but was wondering if anyone that has ordered flyers before knows what paper weight is best?
i have heard 130–170 gsm is best for classic flyers, but do i go for the lower end(130) or higher end?(170) Any information you can give me will be massively appreciated!

Thanks in advance :D

Lewie.

What's your budget, and what's the (kind of) business?

The advice I'd give a window cleaner or a gardener would be different to the advice I'd give an estate agent or a financial advisor.

  • Hey sorry i was not more specific,

It's a face painting business. Its a flyer you'd put on the fridge or through doors, i'm just a bit stuck as to weather to go for 130gsm or 170gsm. (170gsm is only 6-7 pounds more expensive so budget doesnt really matter.)

    Thanks for your reply,

    Lewie

130 will be fine (I deal with flyers a lot as part of my business).

Can recommend print24, where I usually print on 135gsm

I agree, although for school satchel post I'd probably go for 80 gsm ... because I think you need volume: for each one handed to or found by a parent, at least 9 will be discarded. And that's the ones which are found...

But the cost saving between 80 and 135 is minimal. You can get 5000 from Print24 on 135 for a fraction over £50 including delivery (make sure you select the no VAT option). I had some last week.

ETA that's a double sided A5 full colour print cost.

80gsm will be too thin, that's standard photocopy paper, 130gsm will be the best, 170gsm would be quite thick, more of a lightweight card.
